A Visit From “Hey USA”

If you’re not yet familiar with Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart, we are proud to make the introduction. These gals are real life besties, social media super stars, and a ton of fun to be around.

We can vouch for this personally, because they just came out to see us!

The premise was simple: Kidnap their biggest fan. Take him to the Honey Island Swamp. Then surprise him with a Cajun Encounters Swamp Tour. Capture everything on camera for the show Hey USA and post everything online!

We have to say, we had a blast. It was an honor to show everyone around and have them see what we do each day.

The video seems to be a hit too! It has thousands of views and hundreds of comments on Youtube within just a day of posting. It’s pretty entertaining, so we can certainly see why.

Check out the spot below and see for yourself.

World, Meet “Cochon.”

Thanks to everyone who submitted name suggestions for our adopted baby boar.

We’ve been overwhelmed, (in a good way), by the amount of feedback received through our Facebook page, email and Twitter accounts. It’s been a wild ride!

As you’ll recall, we adopted our little piglet a few weeks ago when he wondered away from his mother. Since then, we’ve built a very large pig pen out back for him, complete with his own “house,” running room, treats, and belly rubs throughout the day. He’s certainly been a hog for attention!!

The only thing needed to truly welcome this guy was a name of his own; and you all came to the rescue!

Some of the top names sent in were “Wilber,” “Porkchop,” “Cutie Pie,” and “Nola.” We had a team meeting and selected the top two for a run-off:

Nujac” (The word “Cajun” spelled backwards.)

Cochon” (Cajun French for “pig.”) and

In the end, Cajun French won out, for a memorable, fitting title. There were a few variations, but the one word name, “Cochon,” won out over its counterparts.

Pronounced “kosh-on,” the moniker was suggested by two of our Facebook fans. Each will be contacted shortly to receive their thank you gift of a FREE tour for two!!

Stay tuned for more pictures, news, and holiday fun from the team here at Cajun Encounters. Make sure to pay a visit, and meet our handsome new family member in his new home!

Help Us Name Our Newest Family Member

Readers, we’re calling on YOU help to welcome the newest member of the Cajun Encounters family.

This little guy paid us a visit yesterday, along with his brother, after wondering away from “mama hog”.  His sibling scampered away, but fortunately we were able to help “Potter” (as we like to call him now) get food and shelter.

A tummy full of food was all it took to find his heart. Full of puppy love, he now follows you around, let’s you pet him, flips on his Cajun Encounters Swamp Toursback to let you RUB HIS BELLY, and has the cutest little pig grunts. This is after one day, you guys!

With this sudden adoption comes responsibility, of course. At the moment, we are making a HUGE pen for him in the back of the camp, constructing a “house” made of wood for him, and are finding ourselves spending more and more time in the back yard. How amazing are our lunch breaks going to be now?!

Perhaps after a while, you will be able to pay a visit to him after taking a Honey Island Swamp Tour with us, but first things first – he needs a name!!!

We need your help.

From now until next Wednesday, October 26th, we will be taking suggestions for the absolute BEST moniker this little (soon big) guy could ever have. We’ll even reward the lucky winner with a free New Orleans City Tour, an Oak Alley/Laura Plantation Tour, or a Honey Island Swamp Tour for 2.

We would prefer suggestions be sent via the Cajun Encounters Facebook Page, but feel free to send ideas through Twitter or email.

Stay tuned for much more about “Potter” in the days, weeks, and years coming. You will be able to virtually see him grow into a handsome, big, tusked boar along with us!!

Introducing “Pepe”: The Give Hope Disaster Relief Trip Student Group Mascot

We were given the honor last month of having a repeat visit by our friends at Northwest High School.

These students, hailing all the way from Michigan, were part of a Disaster Relief trip group called “Give Hope.” The group travels to New Orleans to help with hurricane relief.

(A big thank you to you guys, as well as to everyone who takes time out of their schedule to volunteer!)

And with that, we would like to introduce you all to “Pepe,” the groups’ unofficial mascot for the trip.

How fun, right?!

The kids purchased these little guys from the gift shop, and gave them their own dress.

So different! Thanks to NW High for sending these over, for the volunteerism, and of course, for the visit.

To our readers, do you have a neat travel buddy that you’d like to have featured on the blog? Send us some pics, and maybe we can feature you next!!

Brad & Angie Visit Cajun Encounters

Brad Pitt Angelina Jolie Swamp TourSomething pretty exciting happened last weekend at the camp… We were paid a visit by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt!

The two stars, along with their children, drove out to see the alligators during this gorgeous weather.  (We can’t say we blame them.  It’s perfect outside.)

As you would expect, they were very gracious and perfect guests on the tour.  Brad even took a picture with our Jeff Rogers!

We can’t thank them enough for their visit, and for what Brad has done for New Orleans through the Make it Right Foundation.  We even pay homage to this by showing passengers Make it Right homes on our New Orleans city tours.

As for the team here at Cajun Encounters, we are all a bit star-struck.  Don’t worry, though, we’re learning to get used to it.
