Who Created the New Orleans City Park?
New Orleans City Park was founded after businessman John McDonogh willed the land to the City of New Orleans in 1850. In 1854, the 4th District Court officially declared approximately 100 acres of the land as a park that would eventually become known as New Orleans City Park.
Today, visitors who are sightseeing in New Orleans can enjoy a number of different activities. The park is home to two golf courses, as well as a driving range. There are also several miles of walking and biking trails, perfect for exploring the natural beauty of the park. And of course, no visit to New Orleans is complete without trying some of our famous beignets at Café Du Monde in City Park!
